Customs and Transportation Specialist (m/f/d) [Germany]

Fluency in German is required

Based in our Cologne (Rodenkirchen) office, with flexible working possible (2 days home office), ZOLL Medical Deutschland GmbH is seeking a hands-on customs specialist to work with both our local German and European teams. This is an individual contributor role with responsibility for our Resuscitation Division’s Imports (circa 90 employees).

What you will do:
You will have joint responsibility to both the operations and finance teams for day-to-day support and coordination of customs and compliance procedures in Germany. You will work closely and collaborate with the European operations and German finance departments and ensure our logistics partners (freight forwarders) follow the correct import processes and procedures and commercial documentation is complete and accurate.

Tasks

  • Ensuring import documentation presented by logistics partners suppliers is accurate and manage accordingly.
  • For returned goods and technical service, ensuring export compliance processes and procedures are followed.
  • Classification of goods in the customs tariff, obtaining binding customs tariff information and maintenance of customs-relevant master data in the ERP system.
  • Communication with authorities (customs, IHK, BAFA).
  • Cooperation and support in customs audits.
  • Providing accurate monthly customs information (such as import VAT and customs duty) to the ZOLL Germany finance team for the monthly returns.
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with both our U.S. and EU colleagues to share best practice and raise any process issues you identify.
Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience within customs, logistics or supply chain or compliance (essential).
  • Strong knowledge and exposure of import procedures within Germany, along with VAT obligations (essential).
  • Good knowledge of customs broker agencies within Germany (desirable).
  • Familiar with Rules of Origin, HS codes and free trade agreements (desirable).
  • Good analytical skills and knowledge of Excel and ERP systems (advantageous).
  • You must be fluent in German and have strong English skills.
