Key Deliverables


The role is to work with software developers and cloud platform engineers in the Products and Platforms Engineering practice. These teams are building the next generation platform to allow our customers to consume Unified Communications (UC), Internet-Of-Things (IoT), Mobile Private Networks (MPN) and software-define connectivity products in a cloud native manner. Key deliverables of the role are:

  • Work in a DevSecOps team to ensure that the continuous integration and delivery of new software projects has security requirements built in as the software is developed as well as that compliance to Vodafone Security standards and policies is maintained.
  • Work in a team to produce emergent design for a microservice-based architectures.
  • Input SW developers, cloud platforms, and architects the best way to solve problems with software development with SRE foundations in mind.
  • Develop Service Level Indicators and Objectives (SLIs && SLOs) to drive availability reliability, robustness, and performance across all PPE production services.
  • Measure error budget and leverage SRE practices.
  • Ensure that our development considers latest thinking, patterns in software security development and best practice - providing recommendation, with user stories, services management team on approach and automation related to security.
  • Ensure that software produced has excellent unit testing coverage to ensure that changes can be made safely.
  • Research open-source capabilities that Vodafone could leverage to create new services.
  • Take a shift-left approach to development, ensuring that testing and security are at the heart of the software created, using techniques such as TDD and BDD.
  • Bring your ideas into to the Platform team management on how best to enhance our software engineering capability. Keep up to date on current thinking, and design patterns in software development to ensure that software produced remains fresh.

Impact you will create


  • Create software to solve Vodafone business problems across the PPE Platform.
  • Actively contribute to the team improvement activities.
  • Own software developed by engineers and project tasks.
  • Ensure all software capabilities are deployed through a continuous delivery pipeline with security requirements satisfied at the time of deployment.
  • Proactively monitor and fix issues in the PPE production platform(s).
  • Engineer solutions on AWS and/or GCP using aa Infrastructure-As-Code framework composed of tools such as Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Integrate, configure, deploy, and manage centrally provided common cloud services (e.g. IAM, networking, logging, Operating systems, Containers).
  • Integrate, configure, deploy and manage centrally provided common shared service applications on cloud (e.g. Jenkins, Nexus, GitLab Runners, Vault).
  • Ensure compliancy with Operational risk standards (E.g. Network, Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency).
  • Work with the cloud engineering teams and development teams to create effective CI/CD implementations, helping configure and maintain them.
  • Help with the release management of new software into the production platform.

Skills required


  • Ability to adapt to new development languages and frameworks.
  • Working in agile teams.
  • Always keen-to-learn attitude and put knowledge into practice.
  • Remain current on industry developments and cyber threats.
  • A demonstrated ability to create software to solve business problems.
  • Programming experience in any of:
    • Python
    • Go
    • Java
    • NodeJS/ ECMAScript/JavaScript
  • Unit testing frameworks usage.
  • Container technologies (e.g., docker).
  • Experience with microservices design patterns.
  • SOLID principles.
  • Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Demonstrable Cloud service provider experience (ideally AWS) - infrastructure build and configurations of a variety of services including Compute, Storage, Networking and Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrable experience of Linux administration and bash scripting.
  • Experience of working with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD) and continuous testing tools.
  • Experience working within an Agile environment.
