This is very responsible administrative and professional work coordinating and managing a variety of civic, community and educational functions, activities, and programs affecting relationships between the City, the education community, and other agencies and jurisdictions. Work involves the coordination and direction of activities and programs affecting educational and youth opportunity relationships between the City, the community, and other federal, state, and local agencies. This position requires the employee to exercise considerable initiative and judgment to formulate recommendations for policies, procedures, and programs; to apply considerable knowledge of governmental organizations to formulate solutions to a wide variety of problems involving education programs and youth opportunities; and to oversee the coordination of related City objectives, policies and programs with the City, community, Administration, and partner organizations such as St. Petersburg College, Pinellas Technical College, and the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg. This work requires the exercise of considerable judgment, discretion, and tact to effectively communicate and coordinate with outside organizations, other government entities, elected officials, law makers, City Administration and City Council.


Salary: $87,730 - $138,278 DOQ

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Have a valid Bachelor’s degree with major course work in education, public administration, or a related field.
  • Have considerable administrative, public relations, or similarly related management experience.
  • Have a verifiable history of effective communication and relationship building with government officials and policymakers, preferably in Florida and the Tampa Bay region regarding educational and youth opportunities.
  • Be able to assist with the creation and implementation of policies, programs and objectives related to education and youth opportunity initiatives.
  • Be able to conduct accurate and thorough research through effective methods and techniques.
  • Be able to prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and communications that includes summaries, statistics, analysis, and financial information gathered from numerous sources.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely, orally and in writing, including regular presentations to City Administration and City Council.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred Applicants:

  • Have a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration, preferably at the municipal government level.
  • Have prior work history that includes grant management, grant writing, and/or securing grants.
