EDF Climate Corps Fellowship [Remote] [United States]


 

Scope of Position:
The scope of the project is to conduct research on the deployment and implementation of Agrivoltaics in the PJM, MISO, and NYISO North markets for utility-scale solar project development. The fellowship will last for 12 weeks from June 20th to September 11th and will be conducted remotely. There will be occasional site visits throughout New York, Denver, Minnesota, and potentially more throughout the months of July and August.
Responsibilities:
  • Data Collection Strategy
    • The fellow will commence research by conducting a literature review using open-access databases and case studies. Also, the fellow will schedule interviews with employees at EDF Renewable Energy North America, other experts, and external stakeholders. The fellow will also gather data on best practices from field visits to solar project development sites.
  • What Does Success Look Like at the End of the Summer?
    • By the end of the fellowship, the final deliverable will be a comprehensive presentation on the benefits, challenges (regulatory and technical), and applications of agrivoltaics. The slide deck will include recommendations for improvements in the way leadership in the North Region approaches the implementation of Agrivoltaics for its solar development projects.
  • Approach/Timeline
    • Weeks 1-2: Define project scope on regional energy markets, define research methodology, start preliminary literature review and conduct outreach to schedule interviews
    • Weeks 3-4: Interview relevant staff and stakeholders, continue literature research
    • Weeks 4-7: Outline slide deck of midterm presentation, receive feedback and guidance on preliminary findings, conduct field visits, draft a public summary for EDF website
    • Weeks 8-11: Compare literature research to field visit data collection and interviews, synthesize research findings for best practices, challenges, and implementation strategies for agrivoltaics
    • Week 12: Present to EDF Renewable Energy regional leadership, submit all final deliverables to EDF, complete end-of-fellowship meeting with EDF Engagement Manager
  • Deliverables
    • FINAL DELIVERABLE – Comprehensive slide deck presentation with research findings and key recommendations (Any potential confidentiality restrictions?)
    • COMPLETED ACTIVITIES REPORT- Submission to EDF of information about each project worked on, including financial and environmental impact where estimates are relevant and available
    • PUBLIC SUMMARY- High-level project summary (EDF will obtain written approval from host prior to publishing to the web)
    • FINAL PRESENTATION- 15-minute presentation during end-of-fellowship meeting for EDF Engagement Manager and host supervisor on the project objectives, findings, and recommendations
    • PORTAL QUESTIONS - Brief questions about the project found in the Fellow Portal
Qualifications:

Education/Experience –

  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree related to Energy, Environmental Science, or Sustainability
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities –
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimum supervision
Pay Range: $17.00 - $35.00 Hourly
