Summary
The position is primarily focused on molecular genetics in Drosophila as well as other insect species. The primary goal is to develop transgenic strains using state-of-the-art molecular techniques (such as Crispr/Cas9). Experience with fly genetics is a plus but not required.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, a fast learner with good communication skills. The candidate should be honest, considerate and reliable.
Job Duties
- Sets up cloning reactions, performs restriction digests, transformation of bacterial cultures, and makes glycerol stocks.
- Designs primers, sets up PCR reactions, runs gele electrophoresis.
- In vitro transcribing single guide RNAs.
- Injects fly embryos, sets up crosses with transgenic flies and balances fly stocks.
- Maintains fly stocks.
- Performs dissections of fly brains and immunohistochemistry to stain fluorescent markers and specific proteins.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
- No experience required.
